Regatta Report
August 5, 2002-
Light air was the rule of the weekend for this years installment of the Club 420 US National Championship. A total of 5 races were sailed over two days. It all came down to a showdown in the final race, as after 4-races, Youngstown Yacht Club favorite, Morgan Paxhia with crew Karry Mahoney were tied with Bayview (MI) Yacht Club's Lauren Padilla with crew Robbie Ginnebau, both with 11 points.
At the start of race-5, it looked bleak for Padilla, who started OCS near the boat. After restarting, however, she was able to get over to the right hand side of the course where she took advantage of a significant right shift and a little better pressure. This got her to the top mark in a position to take a 4th place in that race and 1st place in this year's US National Championship. Paxhia's 12th place dropped him to 5th place for the regatta.

The YYC, as always, did a remarkable job hosting this event. With excellent race management, all meals covered by the modest entry fee, and a great band Saturday night, everyone involved had a wonderful time. This is especially noteworthy considering that the weekend directly preceding this event, YYC was host to some 318 boats for their annual Youngstown Level Regatta.
