Game Night
May
10th,
2008
Last week's game night was a lot of fun. After some Euchre,
a group of about 10 of us sat down for a fun game of Trivial
Pursuit that lasted until midnight. Good Times were had by
all. Game nights are open to members and non-members alike,
so bring some friends down to the Club and play darts,
euchre, bridge or other games (both card and board). The
Game Night for May is Saturday, May 10th from 6:30 until
10:30. There will be bar service and pub food available.
Some members have offered to lead special games, including
Mexican Train (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexican_train)
and Canoe (http://www.canoegame.com/playcanoe.asp). If you
are interested, please let Ken English (kwenglish@gmail.com)
know and he will work with the volunteers to have a special
table set up. There have also been some inquiries about
setting up games of bridge at the club. We have set up a
list of interested players to make getting a foursome
together for game night a bit easier. Email Ken English to
be added to the list. He is not a bridge player, but will
try to help get the communication going.

Seminar Night

Bird Migration
and Structure Interactions along the Niagara River,
presented by Terry Yonker. Come down to the Club to learn
more about a topic that has a lot of relevance to our area
and has a tie to our Club. Many of you already know Terry
from his occasional service as a launch driver for the Club.
Terry also holds his captain's license and is currently
President of Marine Services Diversified, LLC, an
environmental consulting firm that provides innovative
solutions to marine related environmental and energy
challenges. The presentation is about the research he has
conducted on bird migration at night, using radar and other
techniques to document large scale movements of birds and
waterfowl along the Niagara River. The information comes
from several studies his consulting firm has completed in
the past five years for the Ambassador Bridge and Peace
Bridge Authorities, and the BQ Energy Steel Winds wind
development in Hamburg. The program is for birders and
non-birders alike.
Past Commodores' Tea
Dance
Sunday, May 18 - 4pm
to 6 pm
Many new members ask, “What is the Past Commodores’ Tea
Dance? Do you serve tea? Is there dancing?” Once a year, we
have a special cocktail party to honor our Past Commodores.
The ladies of YYCA make fabulous tea sandwiches and
desserts, and the Past Commodores’ pour wines for us to
enjoy (all complimentary!), while we listen to the music of
the Ron Corsaro Trio. Weather permitting, it may be held
outside under the awning. And although we don't drink tea,
we do sometimes take a spin around the floor if the mood
strikes us! If you are a new member, it is a particularly
good way to meet the Past Commodores and other members.
After the Tea Dance, stay for dinner and enjoy the sunset on
the river (don't forget to make a reservation!). (Blue
Blazer/ Members Only)

First Mate Safe Return
Course
June 1st,
2008
This session is
designed to teach your First Mate what to do in the case of
an emergency, and if the Captain becomes incapacitated for
any reason. It is a two part program. The first is a
half-day classroom session taught by Licensed Captains who
will go over what to do in the case of an emergency aboard
the boat. This will be held on Sunday June 1 at YYC. The
second part of the program will be held on board your own
boat at a mutually agreed upon date. More details will
follow, but mark you calendars now. MaryAlice Eckert is
heading up this program for YYC.
